MEDIA RELEASE: Wednesday 29 April
The Ella Centre today marked 50 years of supporting people with disability, older people and those living with dementia across Sydney’s Inner West.
Established in 1975 following a donation from the Ella family, the Haberfield-based organisation has provided day services, community participation programs and individual supports for five decades.
Today, The Ella Centre supports 96 NDIS participants and 85 aged care clients, with 93 staff delivering services including in-home support, group activities, community outings and transport.
Chair of The Ella Centre, Tim Robinson, said the anniversary was an important milestone for the organisation and the local community.
“For 50 years, The Ella Centre has provided practical support, social connection and quality care for people who need it most,” Mr Robinson said.
“We are proud of the role we have played in helping people remain active, connected and engaged in their community.”
Mr Robinson said while services had changed over time, the organisation’s purpose had remained the same.
“Our focus has always been on helping people live full lives and supporting families and carers who rely on these services,” he said.
“For many families, access to trusted day support also provides important respite and peace of mind.”
The Ella Centre is a registered NDIS provider and ACNC registered charity, with trained staff supporting people with a range of needs including younger onset dementia, frail aged clients, intellectual disability and complex support requirements.
Mr Robinson thanked staff, participants, families and supporters who had contributed to the organisation over many years.
“This anniversary is a chance to recognise the people who have built and sustained The Ella Centre over the years,” he said.
“We remain committed to continuing that work into the future.”
The anniversary was marked with a community morning tea at The Ella Centre in Haberfield attended by clients, families, staff, board members and local representatives.
