Through the history of the biblical writings, the community of faith has been moved to pray together when facing important decisions, great challenges or times of crisis.

Right now, the Council of the Parties (COP 30) meeting is happening in Brazil as world leaders again make plans to address the challenge of climate change and its impacts.

The Uniting Church believes that care for the earth is part of our call to discipleship. The Synod of NSW.ACT holds climate action as one of our church’s Future Directions priorities. And in our lives, we increasingly witness the harmful effects of climate change on our communities, nation and world.

In response, the Moderator, Rev Mata Havea Hiliau is hosting a prayer service on the evening of Thursday November 20, during the final days of the COP meeting. The Moderator Elect, Rev Pablo Nunez, will be sharing in leadership at the service.

The service is an opportunity to:

·       Consciously gather up our concerns and hopes for world in prayer to God

·       Seek for good and wise decisions to be made at COP 30 and beyond

·       Consider how First Nation’s and Pasifika wisdom informs care for creation

·       Offer ourselves afresh to be part of the solution to our prayers

Those who are able,  are invited to gather at the Dr Moulton Congregation, of Auburn Tongan Parish,  2- 4 The Crescent,  Berala,  for a light meal from 6.00pm with the Prayer Service commencing at 7.00pm. Please register here.

For those who can’t be there in person, the service will be live streamed to a number of host congregations across the Synod.

Others will be able to view the service in small groups or in their own homes. Just join the service through the Uniting Climate Facebook page.

The service should go live shortly before 7pm next Thursday. For any questions about the livestream, please contact Jono Row in the Uniting Advocacy team at jrow@uniting.org or on 0403 242 360.
