A Pastoral Statement from the Moderator, Rev. Faaimata Havea Hiliau on the Bondi Attacks
In the wake of the events at Bondi Beach and the loss of life, we offer our deep condolences to those who are grieving and to all who have been injured.
Dear friends,
In the wake of the events at Bondi Beach and the loss of life, we offer our deep condolences to those who are grieving and to all who have been injured.
We stand with the Jewish community and together mourn at the impact of this tragedy on the Bondi community. We recognise that many within the Uniting Church and the wider Uniting family may be affected by this event, and we send our love and prayers.
We are grateful for the invaluable work of the Disaster Recovery Chaplaincy Network, specifically Rev. Mark Layson and Rev. Stephen Robinson, with six chaplains already deployed on the ground, offering care and support to those affected. We are also working closely with the Bondi congregation and the Wayside Chapel as they support their communities in the days ahead.
Events like this can be deeply distressing, and we are reminded to respond in Christ’s love, showing compassion and care to one another, and resisting the temptation to let evil multiply through fear or anger.
If you require pastoral or professional support, please reach out to your manager or contact the Employee Assistance Program on 1300 360 364. This service is confidential and available to you and your immediate family members at all times, even during the break.
Please hold one another in care, and do not hesitate to seek support if you need it.
Grace and peace,
Rev. Faaimata Havea Hiliau
