The final weekend of November brought colour, imagination, and community spirit to Orange Uniting Church as the congregation hosted an exhibition featuring nearly 100 paintings and artworks created by its own members. It was a vibrant display of the creative gifts that live within the community, many of them previously unseen.

The church walls became a gallery showcasing an impressive range of styles and stories. Traditional landscapes hung beside bold abstract works, each piece reflecting the unique perspective of its creator. One of the standout contributions was a striking Wiradjuri artwork centred on the five principles of respect, trust, love, honesty, and honour—an expression of culture woven through colour and form.

Twelve artists took part in the exhibition, including several who had quietly wondered whether anyone would be interested in their work. Over the weekend, they discovered just how much their creativity resonated with others. Visitors admired the skill, courage, and beauty on display, offering warm feedback that affirmed the value of each artist’s contribution.

The idea for the exhibition grew out of a conversation between Bill Loader and a local artist who shared her experience of feeling isolated and no longer recognised within the creative community. From that exchange, Bill partnered with well-known local artist Pat Slinn, and together they encouraged people in the congregation to bring forward their artwork—many for the first time. Their invitation sparked a groundswell of participation, showing what can happen when people are encouraged to share their gifts.

The weekend was more than an art show; it was a reminder that creativity thrives when community makes space for it. In celebrating these works, Orange Uniting Church celebrated the people behind them—each story, each risk taken, and each spark of imagination brought into the light.
